Let’s go back to the start

Welcome to an introverted journalist!

If you haven’t skimmed the “about me,” here’s a little introduction.

My name is Amya, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved writing. I’d have multiple diaries, loved going to my English classes and would even do little things like try to make a magazine out of a composition notebook, or rewrite song lyrics over and over to make it feel like I was creating something. I would flip through Vogue and Seventeen in the Walmart checkout line, and cut out the articles of my favorite musicians and actors whenever my mom would finally let me buy one. Writing is my passion, and I’ve always known I would eventually make a career out of it.

Now, this is where journalism steps in.

I grew up watching shows like Entertainment Tonight and E!News, and would sit in front of the TV for hours waiting for them to come on. I’ve always been attracted to the entertainment industry, and loved the latest trends, movies, music and seeing what celebrities were up to. I wanted nothing more to combine my passion for writing and my love for entertainment, but there was one thing holding me back.

I have been shy my entire life, and no matter how much I talk about “coming out of my shell,” it will always be apart of me in situations where I meet new people or face new opportunities. I still get shy around my friends and family when I haven’t seen them in a long time (I would never tell them that of course). But I knew that if I wanted to pursue something that I love, I’d have to find a way to get past it.

That’s why I’ve decided to start an introverted journalist. My introvertedness is apart of who I am, but I’ve found the key ways to use her in my career as a newsroom reporter and magazine contributor. I hope I’ll be able to provide you with so many tips that can help further your career and that you’ll gain insight into this extroverted world through these introverted eyes.

What to look for:

  • book, movie and podcast recommendations
